Documents mention that new silver and gold mines are of low worth. It is stated that people don't want to work in mines due to low return and of danger of enemy Indians. Also mention that Cananea has been depopulated for these two reasons. (J. Tapia, April, 1988).

Inspection of Sanches Serrada conducted by Rivera. Consists mainly of transcripts of testimonies by soldiers under Sanches Serrada regarding his leadership qualities and treatment of Indians. Occasional references to Indian idols and relations between soldiers and Indian women. Very repetitious (A. Tukey, July 1988)

Correspondence between comandante general, viceroy, civil and military officers pertaining to military appointments, retirements, punishment of soldiers for killing peaceful Chiricaguas and authorization to Lerena to use half signature for correspondence sent to Spain. Ozejo, who governs at Batuco, provides a report on conditions, notes retirement of Torre Casio for his excesses; other minor administrative problems including great distance from nearest padre minister, and a troublesome vezino de razon who is inspiring bad conduct in Indians. Discourse from Lumbreras, commandant of presidio San Carlos de Buenavista to marques de Croix concerning mistreatment of Indians at hands of fray Francisco Cordon. In his letter, Lumbreras complains that Indians of his jurisdiction cannot tend their fields due to labor required of them by fray Cordon in construction of mission church. Such punishment is appropriate, how and by whom it is to be meted out; travel restrictions for Indians; relationship between military authority (comandante presidial) and Indian civil authority (gobernador y Alcalde) at Buenavista. Also included are Cordon's reply to these accusations, and virrey's subsequent response. (J. H. Ochs, July 1987)

Discourse concerning appointment of Lumbreras named by Corbalan as commandandant of presidio of San Carlos de Buenavista. As new commander, Lumbreras carries out order from Corbalan to station detachment of 20 soldiers and one oficial at Guaymas; investigates murder of indio hortalero and theft of cattle at Tonichi. Rough draft of circular letter distributed to military governors of presidios of Tubac, Terrenate, Altar and fronteras stating that detachment of soldiers from each of these presidios should patrol frontera against possible incursions of barbaros Apaches on alternating Basis. Minutas de cartas from Croix written in response to letters and informes from Elizondo concerning military affairs in Sonora. Virrey instructs Elizondo to continue mining operations at Cieneguita; to reiterate to indios rebeldes that they submit to authority of crown.
