Browse Personal Names in Arizona Medical History
Persons in Arizona Medical History is a compilation of nearly 4,000 persons with a connection to the history of medicine in Arizona or, in some cases, to other areas of the American Southwest and border region. Most the persons lived sometime between the mid-1800s and the end of the 20th century, although here too there are some exceptions. Many were physicians or other health care professionals, but individuals in other professions and occupations with connections to Arizona’s medical history appear as well.
Many of the entries are brief – in some cases all that is known is the person’s name and where the name appears – while others are longer and include interesting detail.
When information is available, entries include a person's name, residency, profession, title or degree and a note field. In addition, it is noted when a person is included in the History of Arizona medicine; collections of Orville Harry Brown, M.D. (see below).
For a variety of reasons it is not uncommon to find variations in how a person’s name is spelled. In most cases, the most complete form of the name is selected as the main entry. Great pains have been taken to determine when different forms of a name refer to the same person. Occasionally more than one person have the same name. Here too, to the extent possible, we have tried to differentiate which references refer to which person. When there is uncertainty, this too is noted.
