Francisco Mascarenas is fined eight pesos plus court costs for (1980)

This is a group of 26 letters, all originals with the autograph of fr. Francisco Iturralde. They are written from various missions to different friars. Some are personal, others are informes. A good number were written to fr. Diego Bringas who was visitator of the missions, and almost all were written on half folios in the manner in which we write letters today. Description of El Paso by an unnamed citizen. Gives location via coordinants and landmarks. Lists missions and Indians (Mansos now extinct; Indians and Spanish mixed in their habitation). Detailed description of irrigation. Very detailed description of agriculture (including types and quality of crops). Population statistics. Commerce. Exchange Rate (silver to pesos). The real tribunal general de Mineria sends to Parral a bombastic document appealing to patriotism, love of country, etc., in mineros so they will contribute 3 granos of every Marco de Plata. The miners, of course, are overjoyed to pay the tax and Vote unanimously for it. (P. Hayes) (1977)

Juan Gonzalez de Burgos is Charged with owing 1,393 from his term as admn. de Tabacos, Polvora, y Naipes. His fiadores pull out, one by one, leaving him to come up with the money. Given are accounts for the Renta for 1800-1802. Gives a good idea of how the Renta was controlled. (P. Hayes) (1977)
