A petition of amparo to work a flooded mine about a league and a half from San Juan de Indehe. The author claims that the labor will benefit the crown - mention is made of the quinto - and he promises to pay the requisite salaries to the workers. Document of 23 ff. from fray Garcia to Galvez accusing Escandon of gross abuses in Nuevo Santander; he is accused of fraud, lying, ruining Indian property, allowing Indian nonacceptance of religion and ineffectively fighting rebelliousness, having not created a mission, allowing his capitans to murder Indians, allowing Hacendados to not pay diezimos, nepotism, abuse of Indian labor. He is seen as responsible for the death of fray Silva, the demolition of village, convent and church of San Antonio de Llanos, the injust treatment of Indians, the murder of innocent people and the lack of justice for the guilty in these crimes; excellent description of thoughts of gentil Indian to fray Garcia about the contradictions in religion and what they See as reality. Ff.398-400 are copy of informe from the king discussing need to crack down on vice in New Spain; include list of all crimes that must cease, especially insurgence. Autos of residencia against Bustillos y Zevallos by edict of king and ordered by viceroy to comply with laws which investigates administration of governor at end of his term. Investigation is by governor Sandobal questioning all personnel involved with administration under Bustillo and Indian heads and people at large in province. Also lists of documents, inventories of arms and stores issued to province under governor's care. (A. Dell'acqua, February 1988)

Francisco and six families of Seris returned to Pitic on August 30, looking very hungry. Speaks of rations of grain, meat. Mentions agreement made when Seris first conceded peace in 1784. Tiburones, Tepocas embracing christianity, should be used as examples for Seris. Discussion of process for religious education for Young, older Indians. Lists Seris in reduccion, amount of grain each receives weekly Chepillo declared guilty (charge unclear) by entire Seri nation, is to be deported. Speaks of purchase of livestock for Seris. (A.
