Order form the gobernador prohibiting the entry of any non- Indian into Indian pueblos. He establishes the penalty-a 200 peso fine, 200 lashes and hard labor in the mines. Inconclusive criminal case against a governor of a Jova village. However padre Francisco Maria Piccolo figures large in the case. Pedro Vicorillo leads band of 3 other Conchos on raid of Valerio's hacienda, killing horses, wounding servants. Court sentences Pedro to death, then modifies decision, Lets Juan Leal buy Pedro for 200 pesos to work on Montero for life. (R. Davis) (1976)

Capitan Garcia illegally brings 3 Indians to Parral from New Mexico. Garcia is arrested, jailed and given fine of 100 pesos plus 8 pesos court costs. The 3 indios, already sold, are ordered to be set free. (R. Davis) (1976)

Juan Andres seen publically conversing with Indians around town, and identified as part of party that killed 2 Indians of Nicolas Palomino in the ^pasaje de ronces^. He is arrested. Pedro de la Vega as public defendor draws up list of questions and conducts vigerous defense. (R. Davis) (1975)

These documents, perhaps of considerable interest to researchers interested in conditions of unfree labor in Nueva Viscaya, refer to the case of an Indian woman and her child who are sold at public auction for Ten years of servitude as a result of their presumed compliance in a recent uprising. A declaration of the accused is provided - taken by an illiterate interpreter and a Scribe - in which the Indian woman reveals her confession. Accussed of fleeing illegally from arrest, the the woman asserts that she was merely attempting to keep her child from being taken to Mexico. (C. Needham) (1975)

A trivial, yet rather interesting, case that perhaps today would be roughly described as contempt of court. The case concerns a defendant who proclaimed before the civil authorities that, for the poor, no hay justicia en Este real.
