Plans by Gonzalez del Castillo to increase production of Fondo Piadoso haciendas and related fiscal correspondence. Exceptionally detailed accounts of climate, livestock management, irrigation techniques, and labor problems. Includes descriptions of miserable living conditions and personal nature of hacienda laborers and servants, and related problems with low labor output, contraband, servant indebtedness, and degenerating morality. Sagarraga explains to viceroy that high prices for corn feed, due to several years of drought, have forced reduction in heads of livestock at Ibarra. To remedy this, Sagarraga proposes installation of irrigation system to produce corn at Ibarra, along with expansion of livestock herds. Concerns debt owed by Indian Hernandez-monthly payments on hacienda Arroyo Zarco. Includes receipt of one payment and listing of 49 Indians and their payments (repartimiento). Letters to and from Eusebio Bentura Belena concerning expulsion of Jesuits and their replacement by Franciscans. Documents also concern the property of the Jesuit missionaries, and includes lists of gold and silver and livestock owned. Arnesto writes asking for three things- 1) that certain poblaciones do not harm the summer pastures of the missions in the Tamaulipas mountains. 2) that sheep should not be removed from their nursery and the shepherds should not be bothered. 3) the Mercedes given by Escandon to the soldiers should be withdrawn. Seven letters to padre Cristoba. de Escobar; 1) from padre Joseph de Utrera, Querataro, September 2, 1743, 1 page, discusses debts and 'becas' of individuals in colegio. 2) from padre Joseph Utrera, Querataro, July 5, 1744, 1 page, requests change be made of grammar teacher. 3) from padre Joseph Utrera, Querataro, July 7, 1746, expresses opinion in favor of selling two haciendas and using funds for increasing sheep production. 4) from padre Francisco Mariano de Chaves, July 3, 1746, 1 page, expresses opinion in favor of selling two haciendas and inverting money into sheep production. 5) from Joseph de Castillo, Querataro, September 3, 1744, requests that suspend instruction until arrival of other padre. 6) from Francisco Xavier Arranga, Querataro, July 3, 1746 expresses agreement with sale of haciendas. 7) from Mauricio Rines (?)
