Summary
Series of documents dealing with the home arrest of Alferez Dufay. He argues that personal discrepancies with high ranking military assistance to the comander of Nuevo Reyno de Leon, are the causes the unfair treatment he receives. This documents is full of details envolving possible reasons why Dufay deserved to be arrested, I. E. Disorganized corn distribution to Indians in San Cristobal mission and bad aministration of resources and supplies. Series of letters sent to viceroy about the conflict between inhabitants of real de Vallecillos and government officials. Reports to viceroy is more concise and only makes a brief overview of the controversy but stress need for more military personnel in that area. Series of autos, testimonies and certifications about the formation of a militia of 50 soldiers in real de Vallecillos. Conflict arose when some Hacendados did not want to contribute and began to have meetings to resist the tax. Document explains in detail the type of situations occurring among Hacendados and government officials (some Hacendados compromised to arm one soldier each and then withdrew the offer. (M. Summary
Series of autos in which teniente Sota Riva, defender of teniente Puga, accused of killing five peaceful Indian leaders, makes his case arguing that his client, teniente Puga, only followed order of his Superior, captain muergier. Sota Riva also proved that witnesses against Puga lied and accused them of perjury. Therefore, responsibility for the slaying of Indians should be placed upon captain Murgier (Series of arguments and examples are cited by Sota Riva, to prove the innocence of his client). Sota Riva also brought up situation in which Murgier had put in jail soldiers under his command so he could abuse their wives. Zamora, Cadena and Galvan are accused of perjury. Sota Riva concluded Murgier was a depraved man who took advantage of his position to govern as a tyrant and commit all kinds of crimes. (M. Marroquin, March 1989)
