The only account pertinent to the geographic area of DRSW is entitled mission and journey to the Tepehuanes. it includes a wealth of ethnographic data- clothing, food, architecture, marriage customs (pre-hispanic), religious beliefs, agriculture, and inter-tribal relations. Also information on a monolithic idol (vuamari, a pillar topped with a likeness of a human Head.) Gives number of baptisms for 1607. Discusses severe epidemic. (R. Perez) (1977)

Brief account of Indians of provincia of Texas, of whom the Spanish have encountered 50 naciones, noting- their dress; receptiveness to Spanish language/religion; presence of valuable minerals among them; absence of ydolatria formal although hechiceros, curanderos present; hunting activities especially buffalo; production of tanned deer hides which they trade to Spaniards; absence of drunkenness among them, which Olivares notes may be due to fact that no hay Magueyes en abundancia, o porque ygnoran el modo de cultivarlos (pg.119); dances to celebrate ware victories, which often cause trouble among them; ceremonial use of Peyote que usan Por bebida del Peiotte y de otras yerbas que suelen causas turbacion en los sentidos de que procede el vervisiones, y fantasmas (pg. 119). Posts of lieutenant governor and Segundo Ayudante de Cuerpo de milicias de Colotlan vacant. Immediate replacement needed. Other folios concern need to divide provinces of Nayarit, Colotlan, and Bolanos into twelve subdelegaciones for administrative purposes. F. 242 mentions perniciosas costumbres de los indios and of benefit of forcing tribute from them. Need to survey and explore provinces of Nayarit and Colotlan needed before administrative division. Commission granted to Zuniga for mapping of area. F. 243 provides income breakdown of region and reasons for intended division. Reasons concern caring for Indians and to simplify administration of region. Other view noted that dividing region will result in loss of Indian inhabitants, their customs, and animos. final documents concern filling post of governor. Governor's salary given. (P.
