Summary
Mayordomo Lucas of hacienda de los Amoles ordered to appear before Aduana to testify as to distribution of effects and payments to peones, Vaqueros and ranch hands. Judicial process involves collection of Alcabala on claimed expenditures for this purpose by Valiente, the administrator of the hacienda Amoles. Lucas hesitant to testify incurring recriminations from bosses. Proceedings moved to hacienda to facilitate access to witnesses and financial documents. Officials appear at Lucas' home to enforce order he testify; his wife screams at them she does not know his whereabouts and that he only obeys orders of his boss. F. 9 is lista de generos for San Pedro de Ibarra, Rancho de los Amoles containing quantities and prices for household goods, tools, sewing materials, clothing (certified by Armesto). For continued lack of cooperation of hacienda owners/administrators Valiente is to appear at proceedings in Guadalcazar and further action if necessary to be taken by higher officials, including viceroy. Rivera urgently requests action for daily expenses, horses, riding gear. Great detail on clothing requirements for each man, woman, child. Talks of calamity if food supplies of beans, corn, dried meat don't reach embittered settlers suffering hardships. Ruiz account lists Actual expenditures for individual daily needs, including food, health, horses, salaries. Payment suspended to deserter. Correspondence between Loyola, Senor fiscal and others regarding plausibility of building Obraje in Santa Fe; Indians of region described as being very industrious; women spin cotton in own homes; agriculture and cattle are economic Basis, but during time between harvests no one works and time is wasted; building Obraje would keep people busy at all times, plus add to income; plan is opposed by Senor fiscal due to possible interference with european textile trade, costliness; types of cloth planned for Obraje also discussed; basically interesting document. Summary
Various autos by Sola dealing with maritime traffic in the Californias. Sola submits listing of duty charges for use of national ships carrying sand, grease, a ramrod, leather, wool (clean and dirty),chamois leather, otter. He requests that national ships receive same rights that were demanded at their ports of origin. Itinerary for ship San Antonio (32-men crew) which left Lima destined for California and frigate cazadora which made various stops --panama, Lima, Chile, and other american ports before arriving in California. Recounts ship's need of landing to gather wood and water. Short account of Buenos-Ayres rebels attacking Chile due to lack of resources --medicine, agricultural tools, etc. Frays Duran and Marquinez protest new tax placed on goods from new Indian converts.
