Girard, Joseph Basil

Born in France Dec 26, 1846. Graduated from the University of Michigan School of Medicine in 1857. During different periods between 1874 and 1891 surgeon Girard served over seven years as post surgeon at Fort Lowell. Girard painted watercolors of Arizona and his paintings are displayed at the Huntington Library in California. Girard arrived at Fort Lowell for the first time on May 22, 1874 and left May 1, 1876. He came again to Fort Lowell on Jul 19, 1882 and left in June 1884. In Sep 1887 he rejoined Fort Lowell as post surgeon.
