Summary
Series of documents concerning reports on military status of provincias Nueva Vizcaya and Sonora. Documents show charts contrasting figures of military personnel, weapons, ammunition, prisoners, sick soldiers and war casualties. Footnotes in every chart present a list of novedades occurred in the presidios between presidios, need for weapons, inventories of military supplies. Some charts contain lists (figures only), of Indian women, men and children in presidios, agricultural work, horses, mules, troop's check ups, etc. These footnotes are presented in diary form giving the day and the month of the event. Summary
Concerns Series of documents about organization of militias in Colotlan and Nayarit, under leadership of Vivanco because of his experience and knowledge of the territory. Indians are said to be distrustful of Spaniards. Firearms are suggested for militias to be created. Weapons sent from Cadiz via Veracruz. Documents allude to extreme poverty of Indians. Militias are formed to safeguard presidios and silver production to Spain. Some financial aspects of military organization is given. Mines being discovered in Bolanos. Letters from justicias mayores to viceroys Mayorga and Galvez advising and requesting not to accept peace requested by Apaches Lipanes in Santander due to historical avoidance in order to maintain peace of Indians with Spaniards and other tribes friendly to Spaniards. Justicias mayores detail attacks on towns and haciendas enumerating depredations which include killings by burning of children and women, carrying some prisoners as slaves and tortures of same. Included are documents about depredations carried out by Comanches whose union with Taguayares and Texas have become a force which is very difficult to deal with due to few soldiers in presidios and detachments in towns.
