Murgier received order to present company in Padilla for two month campaign against Indians beginning south of Tamaulipas. Purpose to eliminate rancherias on east ridge. Murgier divides troops and sends in different directions. Describes troop clothing. Attack on Rancheria results in murder of Suraques. Physical description of area, water, pines etc. And difficulties terrain presents for travel and locating water. Upon arrival at each stop, place given name and reported to conde. says Santa Maria Valley fertile, capable of producing 25 fanegas in addition to temporal harvests. Puga's detachment with 10 prisoners asked for horses to transport injured soldiers all of whom later lost in confrontation. says Indians angry and vindictive. Relates achievements and information gained with each campaign. Murgier gives command to Puga during his illness. Includes diary of activity under Puga. Informe sent to Castro. (M. Includes letter from guerra relating troop movement. says Camoteros are friendly but can't be convinced to aggregate to nearby mission. Suggests construction of new mission. Lack of soldiers prevents campaigns against Apaches. Suggests building bastion at presidio for more protection. Castro mentions formal recognition of Texas' Mineral wealth. Concerns annual report of recent measures taken to increase population, agriculture and roads. Concerns proper treatment and relations with Lipanes. Castro delegates request by virrey for audit of guerra and Serna's expenses to San Maxent. Includes San Maxent's evaluation and documentation of expenses. Includes introductions to monthly reports on developments and conditions of company. Capellan transfers to Voca de Leones. Description of campaigns, number of horses and men sent and returned. Tells Castro that conde requested he go to Santander to perform certain duties. Sent 4 men to Bahia. Gives awards to several soldiers. says no one on mission to Texas spoke Lipan. Returns horse lost by Serna during round- up. Informed of Indians who stole clothes and horses of several men going to slaughter. Requests replacements from commander of Punta for five soldiers who deserted. Vidal writes apologizing for error made during Diaz' absence. Vidal sends Lipan to San Carlos with escort. Sacrificing these men for justice leaves severe shortage of soldiers. Diaz takes detachment to Bahia to investigate large Indian influx. (M. Dannemiller, September 1988)

Concerns activities of segunda compania. Describes campaigns in area and number of men and horses sent. Letters acknowledge receipt and completion of orders sent. Bustamente tells of recent Indian vs. Indian wars. Requests orders for behavior assuming loyal frienship with Spanish. Concerns company of uniforms, armament, and tack distributed to soldier describes arrival of one desertor with two horses from primera compania. With Castros permission, Bustamente sent detachment to Rio Grande to verify conditions and assist if necessary. Due to stampede, 300 horses lost. Describes purchases made at Saltillo's annual fair for troops and families. says funds insufficient. Desperately need salaries of officials and sargeants. Sends party to search for desertor and lost horses. Includes list of horses and mules seized from Indians. Tired troops request help from primera compania to continue battle in San Sabbas. Assisted company in Revilla to track Apaches after raid and kidnapping at Lopez' ranch. Relates theft and murder by Indians. Concerns letter from Galvez regarding three soldiers needing to See surgeon in Monclova. Order to have 60 men equipped for campaign. Wants to have meat available for trip but will have Pinole and Vizcocho. Advises all ranches between Arroyo Blance and Yglesias to beware of possible Indian raids. Concerns improper conduct of desertor and his debt to company. Related incident in which one soldier, cleaning his gun, accidentally shoots himself and another soldier and later is imprisoned for it.
