Summary
Thadeo complains off mistreatment of he and his wife, Polonia by Maria de Aragon (Owner) and Antonio de Ortega (her son-in- law). Both are fined seventy pesos Moneda corriente de la tierra. (each pays half) twenty pesos go for court costs and for care and curing of assaulted Indians. Forty remaining pesos are to be paid by working on the Palace. The second complaint of Thadeo (indio) of non-payment is filed and countered by Maria de Aragon but no judgement is given. (thoric cederstrom) (1980)

Series of documents dealing with two interrelated problems of Spanish-Indian relations. (1) proceedings against Garsia Jurado (Alcalde mayor of Bernalillo) and others for mistreating Indian from Santa Ana, Francisco Morones, accused of witchcraft. (2) case against Morones and others re witchcraft. Highly interesting and revealing testimony of Juman o Suma, self-proclaimed curandero, who has a colored stone which can both cure and uncover witches and their hechicerias. He pointed out Morones as Garsia's Hechicero. Proceedings incomplete. No judgement. (Raul Saba) (1980)

Ramon Garzia jurado (alcalde mayor of Bernalillo) accused of forcing indians to catch fish for him during holy week; other agricultural labors, spinning and weaving extacted without compensation. Fray Diego Espinosa of zia mission brings initial charges against Garzia after Garzia accuses him of inciting indians to disobedience, interference in state affairs, etc. Testimonies, accusations and counter-accusations. Offers some chronological indication of different gobernadores of zia and Santa ana. Garzia jurado ordered to pay indians for work done. Failure to do so ended in his arrest, jailing, and embargo on personal belongings. Continued contempt for Spanish justice and officials resulted in Garzia jurado's exile to pueblo of Zuni for two years. (raul saba) (1980)
