Summary
Salvador Martin discovers that his store-room has been broken into and a considerable quantity of various types of grain stolen. With the aid of Romo de Bera, the thief is tracked down and found asleep in the company of two burros and his somewhat scattered loot. The thief is apprehended, gives his name as Jose Francisco Garcia, and confesses to the commission of the robbery. Alcalde Tafoya takes depositions from various persons involved in the case, and with the confession of Garcia, sends these papers on to the governor. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

The Indians of la Ysleta accuse Manuela Carrillo, servant of off over 200 Head of cattle have damaged their cultivations, destroyed the enclosure they constructed to protect the crops, ruined the Patio of the convent; that Carrillo has mistreated them in words and deeds. Carrillo is warned to make amends; that she cannot deprive the Indians of their legitimate rights; that her herd will have to be moved out of the district of Ysleta, to where there is sufficient territory for grazing and maintaining it. Fray Cavallero sends 80 Head of lettuce to Manrrique, with respects to his wife, who is quite partial to vegetables. His garden did not do so well this year, explains the fray, because of late frosts in April, may and even in June. The grapes also have not ripened satisfactorily; but the melons should turn out fine. The fray requests two peines of cheese, to be sent with the Porter. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)
