Summary
Cancio reports on state of affairs and activities at Santa Rosa presidio. Discusses problems with weapons and their inadequacy in battle, problems with enlistments and quality of soldiers, and charges against Rabago made by Alderete. Uniform and weapon supply list of items requested from Mexico (f.130). Cancio provides detailed report on review he made of conditions of troops, weapons, fighting ability, number of horses, uniforms and other supplies (ff. 131-132). In other letters reports on number of soldiers from presidio assigned to nearby places and missions, and notes difficulty in getting reports to viceroy due to distance. Ff. 138-139 contains letters from Cancio about his trip to Santa Rosa written at real de Charcas and Saltillo. Discusses condition of roads, Weather, and number of days until he reaches destination. Some notes from on his trip, his reports back on situation at presidio, and Indian activities in area of presidio. Letter by Cancio to viceroy from Mexico on September 18, 1761, mentions letter from February about his orders to go to presidio. (S. Fiederlein, 3-3-87)

Summary
Concerns illegal act of american captain who left 11 people, including one woman on shore near Monterrey, against will of governor of Californias; the 11 are sent to San Blas, then Marched to Veracruz, where they are to be sent to Habana and subsequently back to their native countries, as commanded by virrey; one Dies of illness on March, one flees on board portuguese ship in San Blas, six go on to Habana while three remain behind in Veracruz, requesting to be converted to catholicism and incorporated into Spanish realm; those remaining behind include an Englishman, Prichard, and bostonian Husband and wife, Andres and Juana Lambert; questions arise as to whether Juana is also married to another man, serious investigation ensues, conclusion is she has always been married board by Daw and prices; ff. 433, request in English for conversion, catholic marriage and repatriation signed by by drink, Andres not her legitimate Husband; ff. 556-9, question their fidelity to crown and church; ff. 574-586, personal letters from Andres to Juana used as evidence of their faithful marriage; further documentation includes Series of testimonies by military commanders on road from Tepic to Mexico that captives had been given no reason to complain of bad treatment, and final decision of virrey to give lamberts choice between Spain and Baja California as ultimate place of residence. Summary
Hurdaide describes early attempts to colonize Sinaloa. Discusses his own conquest more than 100 leagues, 5 major rivers, 185,000 Indians. Notes that according to Cabeza de Vaca, 200 leagues between Sinaloa, Florida filled with (docile people well-disposed to receive the holy faith. Also states probably a land route from Sinaloa to California, although easier to go by boat (evidence not everyone thought California an Island). Mentions Indian unrest caused by Tlatoles from Tepehuan area. Asks for 30 Spanish settlers, no mulatos, mestizos or known rebels. Requests more soldiers, newcomers, not Spaniards already settled in Sinaloa. Asks that his Brother Martin Sanchez de Hurdaide be appointed protector of Indians. Describes importance Montesclaros presidio, construction 4 casas fuertes Yaqui, Mayo, Nebome areas. Mentions discovery Chinipa mines. In general, Hurdaide's apologetica 40 year career which has left him 40,000 pesos in debt. Indians he's fought called most bellicose New Spain. (T. Sheridan) (1976)

Relacion similar to Hurdaide's letter to viceroy 5/25/1622. Believes land route to California exists but easier to go by sea. Discusses history conquest Sinaloa, his own efforts to extend frontier. 20,000 inhabitants 4 rivers of Sinaloa -10,000 baptized, of whom 4000 now dead from war or sickness.
