Typeset decree of April 16,1834 secularizing all missions in the republic. Missions were converted to parishes and were regulated by local governors. Decree allowed four months for the transition. Letters from Fondo de California discussing details of transition and church properties. Ff.#7 list of bookkeeping activities for Fondo Piadoso de California. Letter requesting permission to write a book entitled historia de la Antigua California. Clavejero, a Jesuit, wrote the original book. Letters concerning payments in and out of the contaduria of calif.. Ff.#21,22,24, itemized accounting documents. Contaduria salaries discussed. He lists other municipal organizations in which he would gladly work; petitions for job in Fabricas de Polvora, vacant due to death of gacleyne; asking on behalf of his 7 children, european wife. Summary
Chacon requests gubernatorial salary to be paid him until he is able to leave Mexico for Spain. The ports are closed due to war. Vildosola and Lasso support Chacon's petition to the viceroy of the obligatory delay since his influence could expedite settlement. Military governors are also entitled to 12 salary payments for travel back to Spain. The royal warrant of April 16, 1792 settled the question of payment. (E. Wilson, November 1989)
