Notice of revision of ramo de alcavalas of the provinces of Nuevo Santander; governor receives copies of bandos from the viceroy (bandos are related to prohibition of commerce among employees of ramo de rentas); viceroy authorizes military escort for Munoz, who is traveling to Texas; notice that people of tributary classes must get a licence to get out of domicile; viceroy gives recommendations about dealing with ships claiming to be whale hunting; Cierragorda receives order to release Alferez de Tula; notice is given that Mugier's case be reviewed; titulo de Castilla is given to Serena; Cierragorda receives copies of Bando giving pardon to people guilty of contraband (M. Proposal by Ugalde for instructions to be given to troops participating in imminent campaigns against Apaches. Describes ranks, numbers of men to comprise each troop, maneuvers to complete, procedure for handling prisoners, remuneration to dependents of those killed in action, resupply points, stationing of surgeons and chaplains, etc. (A. Documents deal with implementation of peace pact. Ten Capitancillos Mescaleros, in exchange for protection and hunting rights, agree to relocate rancherias in areas around presidio del Norte. Troops from Coahuila, led by Ugalde, engage in battles with rancherias causing distrust among Indians. Diaz informs Rengel of increasing problems in maintaining positive relations with Mescaleros due to Ugaldes refusal to return prisoners and caballerias that were captured during illicit raids. Diaz, in spite of Ugalde's lack of cooperation, obtains the release of captured soldiers by promising the Indians that their belongings would be returned. (L. Carrion, March 1988)

Mendinueta relates Cumanche murders, scalpings, and attacks on Spanish and Tutas. Observes that when Indians attack Indian villages, villagers hold their ground; but when Indians attack Spanish settlements, Spanish retreat and abandon their possessions. Ripperda suggests captains provide tobacco for each presidio as incentive to soldiers; refers to set tobacco price.
