Contains letters from virrey expressing discontent over lack of cooperation between Ugalde and Ugarte. says damages suffered by Apaches would be fewer if two would work together and loan troops and use to best advantage. Contains document in which virrey admonishes Ugalde for having given Gutierrez command of Baamonde's Leon territory. Disappointed to have heard complaint and warns against future improprieties. Gives instructions for determining such temporary commanders. Virrey reassigns troops to Ugarte due to increased Indian hostilities in Nueva Vizcaya. (M. Dannemiller, February 1989)

Documents present information requested by virrey concerning conditions of troops led to Lampazos by Ugalde. Contains lists of uniforms, armaments and horses. Contains also relacion regarding finance of troops and provisions to each soldier by name. Includes nine testimonies of officers of said troops testifying that there were public card Games in camps, selling of military horses was permitted and soldiers received harsh reprimands and were otherwise mistreated. Vaamonde discusses costs of mules, supplies and maintaining soldiers and asks virrey to supply these funds. Includes accounts of money spent for items sent to troops in Lampazos.(M. Concerns response by Vaamonde to virrey's request for information. Includes documents gathered as proof. says gave license to Tato according to same procedures as his predecessors. Provides information regarding troops in Tato's command. Historical background of company. Established in 1727. Provides historical description of logistics under first caudillos. Funding did not begin until creation of presidio in Lampazos. Troops are loosely organized and without uniforms but assist in protection against enemies, likely reason why captain was appointed without knowledge of virrey. Includes Tato's original request for appointment and justification thereof. Virrey says naming of such officials by governors is an abuse and shall be terminated. (M. Dannemiller, December 1988)

Ignacia Maria Guifas author of many detailed letters to the viceroy concerning her deceased husbands pension. She wrote that her Husband was due a promotion and requested that it be granted. She said that her Husband was not given fair treatment by his fellow and Superior officers. He threatened to report extortion and failure to pay taxes (Diezmos) to the viceroy. He made many enemies. Larrangan and Tuburcia attempted to kill Guifas with a glass of aguardiente containing poison. He went mad for eight days. Wife attempted to make antidote.

Guifas wrote several letters to the viceroy complaining of Younger officers being promoted over him. Francisco Lazaya promoted to second alfarez. Guifas describes in detail the military careers of his Father, Jose Manuel Guifas, and his Brother. Guifas' Father was a leader in the conquest of Nueva Tamaulipas. Two sargents, with less experience, were promoted over Guifas. Guifas threatened to retire if no action was taken. Guifas wrote of same problems to gobernador Diego Savaga. Viceroy sends letter recommending that Guifas receive the next available promotion. Letters from fellow officers stating Guifas unworthy of promotion. Guifas writes several letters to viceroy explaining his recent illness. Detailed physical description of Guifas. Testimony from Manuel lornos concerning military conduct of Guifas and fellow soldiers. Guifas received bloodletting treatment for his illness. Guifas' captain Mungier reported that Guifas had stolen military livestock. Guifas suspicious that his captain and wife are having a liaison. Guifas wrote letter to viceroy accusing the captain of misconduct and denied the charges of extortion. Guifas wrote that captain had conspired to kill him. Guifas blinded due to illness. Wrote requesting overdue promotion and disability due to blindness. Requested permission to go to Mexico to be cured of illness. Wrote concerning financial problems. Guifas inherited land and five slaves upon mothers death. Juan de Sosaya gained control of Guifas' land. Land planted in Maguey. Sosaya producing Mezcal and selling for 20 pesos per barrel.
