Letter concerning provincial courts decision to deport rebel Cocoyome, Acoclame, Chiso Indians imprisoned in Parral to Mexico City to be apportioned among ingenios, trapiches y obraxes after being instructed in catholic faith. Parral junta de guerra decides to escort Indian prisoners with guard of 20 presidial soldiers, 30 arcabuceros, 50 Indian auxiliaries, who are to be paid in rations. Felipe Grayna, gobernador of Oputu accused and convicted of telling lies about padre Thomas Martin, S.J. for this blasphemy, he is stripped of his office and forbidden to hold office again and given two hundred lashes. (T. Barnes) (1976)

Marcos Humuta, an Indian, convicted along with others, of witch craft. Marcos is sentenced to exile. The other two receive one hundred and fifty lashes and four years at labor. Excellent Indian accounts of witchcraft and its relationship with the catholic church. (T. Barnes) (1976)

Three Tarahumara Indians convicted of leaving a hacienda where they were obligated to work. Each sentenced to six months in a Montero. (T. Barnes) (1976)

In testimony capitan Joaquin tells story of how capitan Manuel was apparently murdered by 4 sons of Luissa who visited the home of Manuel. A Series of 4 questions is drawn up and given to Luissa and her sons. Testimony also by Francisco de Ojeda. A doctors report on body of Manuel finally declares he died of old age and that the Indians are innocent. (R. Davis) (1975)

Canito Charged with murder and robbery as leader of combined band of Indians (Pimas, Jocomes, xuma and Janos). His state appointed lawyer does well, getting the sentence reduced from death to 2 years at hard labor, by appealing to the governor. An excellent example of Spanish judicial system and how Indians were treated in it. Part of his salvation is his conversion to catholocism while in jail. (T. Barnes) (1976)

Bartolome y Pablo Charged with a variety of crimes-convicted and sentenced to 10 years and 6 years respectively at hard labor. Francisco de la Cruz, a Negro slave, interprets for the trial. (T. Barnes) (1976)

Some 200 Indians, a combination of the groups listed below, led or at least partially led by 2 mulatos, raid a village- they kill 7 people and steal 350 mules. Those eventually captured (5) are tried- one being whipped, the others going free. (T. Barnes) (1976)
