Arredondo informs virrey about a fight between the Lipanes and the company from Bavia and the results of the battle. In ff. 163, another battle is referred to but now in the Paraje of the Tortuga. Lopez fought Indian, killing him with his hands; ears of Indian cut and presented to the comandante; official letter determines that all adventurers aprehended with arms in hands, or those giving them help, will be punished with pena capital, and the confiscation of all properties. Milicias celebrate successful campaigns by taking ears of dead Indians, displaying them on pillory. Mention of panguay treaty with J.e. Serna, by which they help Milicia exterminate other Indians. Skirmishes summarized. Mentions shipments of powder, bullets, horses, provisions to mission at Horcasitas. Buedo reports on Panguayes, Martinez Indians at mission, praising Martinez' valor. Nava informs virrey that Lipanes de arriba are very cooperative in peace treaty; Lipanes de Abajo do not want peace. explains that de arriba habit of hunting Cibolo twice a year is cause of discord between bands. Apaches are poorly disciplined, unused to following one chief; lay of their land makes it difficult to anticipate attacks. Mentions attack by Mescaleros, supported by troop, against Comanches; conflict resolved. Texas gobernador preparing campaign against de Abajo Lipanes. Summary
Nava informs virrey that he will recruit about 1000 Indians to fight Apaches. Nava instructs Concha to be very careful not to let Comanches know their friendship is useful only in war against Apaches. Virrey orders Nava to put one Destacamento Saltillo, another in Alamo de Parra, to facilitate communication between two comandancias. Nava informs virrey of Castro's petition for 400 soldiers, says request is impossible but with Comanche alliance he will be able to help Castro. Copy of letter from Castro to Nava concerning how to prepare an attack on Lipanes without jeopardizing comandancias. Comandante of presidio del Norte informs Nava of situation with Indians. (D.
