Crimes (Theft)

Miguel received report of 4 Indians rounding up hacienda horses. He and Indians from hacienda go after them. Capture Juan. Estevan told Miguel about it. Juan is of the encomienda of Pedro Cortes, and works on the hacienda od Diego Romo. This Series of documents are a collection of eye witness testimony to the attempted horse stealing and indio Juan is confined to jail, and Pedro Cortes is ordered to further punish Juan when released. According to capitan Bartolome Sarmiento, Geronimo and other Indians visited the hacienda of general Diego Alarcon Fajardo and killed some of his cattle. Final judgment is passed by Don Juan de Aguileta Alcalde mayor of Parral - it seems Geronimo is part of the encomienda of Francisco Cano and he must be responsible for paying for cows. (R. Cristobal is convicted of robbery. Sentenced to six (6) months service in a hacienda de minas. The people he is to work for will, in turn, pay the court costs - all public costs of the proceeding - and the personal costs sustained by the victim of the crime. (T. Barnes) (1975)

Juan de Salayses claims Marcos Rodriguez a Mule from him, and this is born out in testimony. The Mule is recovered from Marcos, and sold for 30 pesos, which it appears will be returned to Juan. (R. Davis) (1977)

Juan de Santa Cruz is found guilty of stealing silver from hacienda of Francisco Montano. Confession included. (R. Davis) (1977)

As result of residencia of his term as justicia mayor Alonso is found guilty of stealing 36 pesos and is ordered jailed. (R. Davis) (1977)

Baltasar Caldera; Juan de Salacar de Pinto; Julian de Valdes Juan de Laris, Manuel Gomez and Juan Ranjel de Viyma are all Charged by the Aguacil Diego Moran with stealing silver and keeping it from being accounted for, and finds them guilty, jails them, takes confessions and gives each 4 days of public jail display. They then appeal to governor Guajardo Fajardo and are absolved. (R. Davis) (1977)

Pablo stole a Mule - is convicted and placed in the personal service of Gonzalo for an indeterminate period of time. (T. Barnes) (1975)

Juan de Perelacia brings suit against Francisco Gonzalez for stealing a Mule load of silver from him. Francisco is ordered to jail. (R. Davis) (1977)

Joseph Hernandez Lovon is caught stealing mules from Juan Fernandez de Carrion and is sentenced to 6 years labor to be carried out under any Cart Owner who pays court costs. (R. Davis) (1977)
