Criminal case against Matias Medina Charged with misleading the Indians of Taos. Medina told the Indians that once a defensive Wall had been complete, governor Melgares and captain Sanudo, would come and take their grain and livestock and give each family one almud of corn per month. The grain and livestock would be use to feed the soldiers stationed in the province and others who would be brought from outside the province. The expropriation would be facilitated by inventories of property prepared on the orders of the governor. Medina also Charged that Melgares and Sanudo were rebels, and that the two had done the same thing at an unamed fortified Plasa. The officials deciding the case questioned the competency of testimony given by two Indians, and let Medina off with the four months he had served. (Robert H. Jackson) (1980)

Madrid accuses Gonzales of having called her an (alcagueta) of referring to her as a disreputable woman, in the presence of her Husband as a result of which she was denied entrance to the convent. Manrriques passes the declarations to the licenciado Bracho, who gives his opinion in the case. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

Rosalia Madrid is accused of having protested the intended marriage of Jose Fresquis and Gertrudis Mestas. Madrid denies this slanderous charge. Finally, the priest Sebastian Albares issues a written statement certifying that Madrid is not the person who issued the protest. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

Testimony of Indian woman named Maria de la Encarnacion, kidnapped by 2 Indians and one Mulatto, taken to cave, where she witnessed the murder of nearby ranch hand, who the 3 captors lo desnudaron y lo degollaron los Dos indios con un Belduque y el Jose (the Mulatto) Le tuvo de las Piernas. investigators however find no trace of the mutilated body in the cave, nor hear of any murder from anyone else and begin to question Maria's veracity and motives. Calzada accuses bishop Llanos of mishandling the properties of deceased bishop Bustamante. In several letters to the virrey, Calzada trys to demonstrate that Llanos is making the matters difficult for him and he wants the virrey to remove Llanos. Llanos is commissioned by the virrey to investigate whether there was fraud in Bustamente's administration of Diezmos. Fiscales from the royal hacienda defend bishop Llanos from the attacks of Calzada. Llanos Dies and the investigation of fraud stops until it is turned over to the fiscales who slow down the investigation, avoid accusations of fraud, and try to mediate. (D. Bautista, January 1990)

Series of letters relating results of military trials. Crimes reported include rape, infidelity, slander and defamation, disobedience, and perjury. When no conviction was made, accuser was jailed for perjury. Includes Maldonado's complaint against Emparan for not rewarding pension to compensate for her Husband's death.
