Documents relating to complaints by founder of Villa Presas del Rey to governor about Indian uprisings and lack of military detachment to stop incursions, accusing teniente Serna of incompetence for taking military force away. Also accuses governor of not being strong enough to rule. Fiscal and viceroy question lack of communication from Villa. Viceroy orders governor to imprison teniente Serna but due to Indian uprisings, governor sends Serna to fight instead, explaining to viceroy why teniente was absent from Presas del Rey. Teniente Serna in a letter to viceroy explains his conduct accusing capitan de la Serna of cruelty toward Indians. Neighbors write viceroy requesting change of justicia mayor accusing capitan de la Serna of depredations. Documents of census of families living in Presas del Rey. Documents pertain to interrogation of Pedro Jose and his band by governor of Nuevo Leon. Rebels give in detail persons killed and things stolen. Governor requests capital punishment for Pedro Jose and three of his followers except for two whom he wants to be sent to el Morro in Habana. Fiscal mayor writes viceroy opposing capital punishment for rebels advising a more humanitarian way of dealing with Indians reminding all of rights of Indians and proper judicial procedures. Viceroy determines to follow advice of fiscal in treatment of rebels. Banishment of other rebels to far away places. Governor takes testimony of various military men about the killings carried by Pedro Jose and his men for their trial in Mexico City. (A. Dell'acqua. August 27, 1987.)

Documents relating to Pedro Jose Gualahuizes' rebel and his band who have been assaulting ranches, stage coaches, and small towns, killing various men escaping to mountains with properties and stock. Force formed to capture band to no avail. Rebels use mission of San Cristobal de los gualahuises for protection. Fray Barragan informs viceroy of impossibility to proselytize Indians in mission. Fiscal sends letter to viceroy indicating plans to inprison, resettle and disperse Indians in different areas to be carried by governor of Nuevo Leon and Santander, viceroy approves proyect but bishop of Nuevo Leon desires mission of San Cristobal to continue in same area guided by two friars who should try to indoctrinate Indians. Lengthy legal case mainly consisting of sworn testimonies of numerous witnesses and involved parties in murder of Jose Contreras at presidio of Altamira by Manuel Cristoval Guzman. Documents include a statement or confession by Guzman who initially took asylum in church to avoid apprehension, later Guzman claimed protection under the Fuero militar.
