Residencia-style hearing conducted by Cabello. Reveals that Ripperda overcharged as much as 100-200 percent in sale of rations, and that he forced the sale of useless items on soldiers. Series of letters from Borica to Peru concerning frontier matters, including Borica's investigation of Peru. Borica discovers that -1) Peru's troops are rarely revied; 2) target practice is held infrequently, so Janos soldiers shoot poorly in battle; 3) during 3 years Peru responsible for supplying his troops, he overcharged soldiers 600 pesos, including selling beef he purchased for 12 reales at 15 reales or more. Criminal case against Matias Medina Charged with misleading the Indians of Taos. Medina told the Indians that once a defensive Wall had been complete, governor Melgares and captain Sanudo, would come and take their grain and livestock and give each family one almud of corn per month. The grain and livestock would be use to feed the soldiers stationed in the province and others who would be brought from outside the province. The expropriation would be facilitated by inventories of property prepared on the orders of the governor. Medina also Charged that Melgares and Sanudo were rebels, and that the two had done the same thing at an unamed fortified Plasa. The officials deciding the case questioned the competency of testimony given by two Indians, and let Medina off with the four months he had served. (Robert H. Jackson) (1980)

Antonio de Armenta charges that Antonio Mestas is causing problems in the work on the acequia due to unjust practices in the directing and apportioning of labor. Lorenzo Gutierrez is sent to the site to investigate and issues a report on his findings. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

On the order of Mariano de la Pena, Francisco Chavez is informed verbally, that he has been exiled and must be out of Alburquerque in 24 hours. Chavez appeals to the governor. In the ensuing litigation Chavez is accused of failing to meet obligations resulting from livestock transactions. Written testimony, declarations of witnesses, etc. Are taken and these are sent to the governor for his determination of the case. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

Governor Maynez accepts Baca's confession, and determines that his time under arrest during process of gathering all this information has been sufficient punishment. (R. Davis) (1981)
