Juan de Soto is accused by Alonso Sanchez of attacking and injuring one of Alonso's Indians but the situation seems to be self defense and case is dropped. (R. Davis) (1977)

Justicio mayor Geronimo comes upon a fight with Pedro Ronquillo beating up an Indian, Miguel de Silva. Both are arrested and testimony shows Miguel had wounded a mulato slave of Pedro's. Miguel is ordered to prison for unspecified term. (R. Davis) (1977)

Francisco de Castaneda, a mestizo, and an indio Mexicano fight over an Indian girl, and both are jailed by the justicia mayor. (R. Davis) (1977)

Francisco Mendez is found guilty of having mistreated a woman and of acting roguishly and is fined the cost of his goods. (R. Davis) (1977)

Marco accuses Alonso de Valenzuela of beating him up on a road and Ynes enters testimony that Alonso beat her once also. As Alonso is a justicia mayor the lt. Governor orders Alonso to appear before a tribunal to review his tenure and decide the case. (R. Davis) (1977)

The title of this collection is very misleading. The documents actually concern a case involving a mulato slave who is Charged with intimidating his master with two swords. The slave argues through his defender that his purpose in holding the weapons was completely innocent; nevertheless, he is convicted to suffer public humiliation and two hundred lashes administered by an Indian named Mateo. One can speculate whether he would have survived the ordeal; but actually he was rescued by a priest during the course of the punishment and given refuge in the church. (C. Needham) (1975)

Contains a blow-by-blow account of an altercation. This record of a case of assault is not likely to be of great interest except to historians of legal practices. It does contain some insight, however, into the liabilities of an Owner for the actions of a slave, in this case a mulato owned by Pedro Andrade. (C. Needham) (1975)

In an argument over his Indian wife, Pasqual beats her and another mulato with a stick. Pasqual sentenced to one year labor in a charcoal plant and fined 200 pesos. (T. Barnes) (1977)

Mateo de la Cruz wounds Miguel de Ortiz in a fight, and is given a 200 pesos fine and jailed. As Mateo cannot pay the fine, Diego Nunez pays it in exchange for Mateo's labor until fine is worked off. (R. Davis) (1977)
