Bando from the gobernador general Bustamante to the Alcalde mayor of the Provincia de Zuni, Alonso Garcia, ordering publication of the enclosed royal cedula announcing abdication of king Felipe V in favor of his son Luis I. mmss includes copy of cedula and order of virrey to gobernador general, as well as Bustamante's order and Alcalde's certification of publication. A very involved suit between the marques de la Penuela and Cuerbo y Valdes; charges against Valdes by councilmen and soldiers, that during his entire governorship he had altered the accounts and unfairly paid them low prices for their merchandise; that he was guilty of tyranny, extracting forced labor from residents by threatening them with hanging; that he was a violent man, a number of whose servants and slaves wished to leave him. Also, at the time of the assumption of the governorship by the marques, the handing over of the power was accompanied by violent disagreement between himself and Valdes as to who should pay certain expenses. There is also a charge that the marques was the instigator of an Apache raid on livestock of Valdes. The papers here are incomplete and the outcome of the suit is not given. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

A good number were written to fr. Diego Bringas who was visitator of the missions, and almost all were written on half folios in the manner in which we write letters today. This long informe gives a complete account of the mission de Nuestra Senora del Pilar. It was sent by fr. Juan de Dios de Larrondo to fr. Antonio de Vebina, and speaks of the govierno politico and espiritual de los indios including the gastos and the limosna a los pobres, etc. This is an original document with the autograph of fr. Pedro Ramirez complaining of the bad treatment given the missions and missionaries by capitan Tobar... desde el Primer ingreso de Este Senor capitan Al el comando de su compania ha sido Una continua persecusion, y perTubacion de los animos de los Religiosos... it was written from the mision de S.
