Summary
Instructs priests Yaqui area to- 1) ask for suspension if Yaqui chiefs return from Mexico City with order from viceroy to restore their staffs of office, because such order must be confirmed by Audiencia of Guadalajara; 2) use arms of church to prevent Yaqui chiefs from taking possession staffs of office if requests for suspension denied. Believes such action necessary or Yaqui, Mayo areas, entire province Sonora will be lost, christian flock torn to pieces by carniceros lobos. Mentions misery, sad state Yaquis. Exhorts priests to use power excommunication cautiously, to find out what order Yaqui chiefs carry says first. Warns if respect for religion lost, Spain will experience civil wars like France, Germany. Clear indications profound civil/religious conflict. (T. Sheridan) (1976)
