Summary
Series of documents about discovery of two new silver mines. Discussion of salaries for workers, food provisions, and possibility of increasing number of people in area. Mention that mine owners not happy with Ugarte's decision to have workers paid daily, for operating expenses may be equal or higher than profit. They prefer to pay salario ajustado. there is also description of size of mines, and amount of mercury needed to operate them. There is also mention that with discovery of mines there would be an increase in population resulting in fewer Apache raids. Discussion that several merchants have established in the area in order to sell goods to miners. (J. Tapia, March, 1988)

Various tribunal de cuentas; naming of teniente to oversee payments of silver in Parral; letter of Rusi to viceroy about raise given. Letter to Rusi and governor of Durango to advise justice of Cosiguriachi not to utilize receptor of Alcavalas Herrera or any employee of real hacienda and dependents in any campaigns against Indians. Letter to assayer of Chiguagua to name teniente to oversee charges of royal fifth from silver mines. Edict to prohibit selling of seed by private persons and buying from farmers at different prices than those established. Strange letter to viceroy from Oropesa requesting help. Letter from viceroy to mayor of Durango about process governor has against Chamorro for problems with Irigoyen inventory; advising mayor to respect governor by word or deed or suffer consequences. Decision made by junta de guerra y hacienda to pay members of expedition to Chiguagua and Indian auxiliaries with silver contributed by mines of Chiguagua and Santa Eulalia. Letter from viceroy to administrator Rusi about culpability of Azcarate with mail diversion and Azcarate self- incrimination by running away; orders issued to find Azcarate's whereabouts and punish him. Documents pertaining to naming of engineers and instructions on how to achieve goals of expeditions to Nueva Vizcaya and Sonora. Planning and settlement of port of Guaymas and Rio Yaqui as Principal areas for commerce and trade. Conquest thru war and pacification of Seris and Pimas Altos; detailed ethnography. After achieving these goals expedition to resume exploration up Rio Gila establishing town on banks preferably near Colorado River to serve as capital of Gila province; study natural resources in detail; find mines and other natural riches to attract settlers; wage war against Apaches to secure lands and make possible fluvial navigation. Area should serve as protection to other settlements to east and south of province. Letters about arrival of visitador general Galvez to Sonora on his way to California. (A.
