Correspondence between captains of presidios of Janos and junta administration. Issues include shortage and procurement of gunpowder at presidios; proposed relocation of presidio of Caldas to junta de los Rios; utilization of Indians to track Apaches, and guard horse herd at Janos; nomination and confirmation of officers at Janos; captain of Janos ordered to render military assistance to presidio of junta; punishment of Apaches residing at Janos accused of raiding real de Zaracachi; service records of officers at Janos, and general review of officers and soldiers at Janos which includes place of birth, race, parentage, etc. (J. Two lists of Apaches de Paz at Bacoachi. One gives the name of the Head of the household with the age, sex and relation of others in the family and then totals for men, women, boys and girls. 126 Apaches de Paz at Bacoachi. The 2nd list shows mortality among the Apaches de Paz since December 3, 1786. Again names, and age and sex breakdown are given but in addition the deaths are divided into categories of violent and natural. There were 41 deaths in the 2 year period. Various documents relating to civil and military affairs within Provincias Internas in particular, authorization to capitan Martinez to wed if future wife's dowry proven. Ministers from real hacienda have same rights to retire to Spain with kings permission with third of salary as priests. Request by Fernandez to be reimbursed for monies given to Medina for subsistance and trip to Mexico for horses. Request denied by viceroy as Fernandez did not follow procedures. Food supplies for presidios in California. Letters to governor of Veracruz to aid Croix's doctor in travel to Mexico. Requests for gunpowder of first quality to be used in war time in presidios along frontier. Raise of salary for Escorza. Extinction of compania volante de Sonora under king orders. (A. Documents detailing exploration of California, foundation of San Diego and health problems with maritime personnel. Rolls of persons that died in expedition and survivors is given. Governor Portola decides to continue expedition to Monterrey by land due to poor condition of sailing personnel. (A. Dell'acqua, October 1987)

Letters relating military campaigns to pacify, chastise rebel Indians which have perpetrated various robberies of horses, cattle and killings of pacified Indians and Spaniards including priest from banoyaca who was tortured. Letters also indicate Indians want peace, as they make crosses and leave them where Spaniards would find them. (A. Dell'acqua, October 1987)
