Issues mentioned royal fifth to be extracted from all privately held gold, silver in Sonora; legal case against Torres; regulations pertaining to recovery of gold by individuals; Lumbreras' account with real Caja; Corbalan's delay in transmitting Cuenta general to office of virrey, virrey's response; revenue collected by real Caja through sale of tobacco, gunpowder, playing cards; Prestamero's repayment of debt owed real hacienda; lastly, index of letters from Corbalan to virrey from 17 September through 25 October, 1773. Extremely repititious sequence of documents concerning the promotion of Palou and Genebriera to administrador de Rentas and Oficial Segundo respectively. Includes long discussions of previous administrative experience of both candidates, and recommendations and character references. Only significant detail involves discussion of whether Alcabalas and playing card taxes should fall under authority of administrador de Rentas. (A. Tukey, November 1988)

Discussion of prices and availability of goods in Nueva Mexico, especially tobacco. Commerce is limited to a once per year journey to Chihuahua. Indians grow their own tobacco, even though it is prohibited. (D. Marksz, August 1987)

Gutierrez Castillo, corregidor de Chihuahua is carrying out viceregal order forbidding black market importation into Nueva Vizcaya of saltpeter, blackpowder, other goods controlled by royal monopoly. Attached is copy of royal order regarding this matter, plus Gutierrez' auto. (J. H. Ochs, June 1988)
