Mission Agriculture

Tells of the practice of the missionaries on the peninsula (California), where ^the few grains and fruits that the missions produce^ are sold for gold and silver at the expense of the already poorly fed and clothed Indians employed by them, deploring such action. (C. Briggs) (1975)

Expediente 92 of temporalidares 325 contains literally hundreds of letters and Memorias many from missions in the north especially those of Sonora, Alta Pimeria and upper Tarahumar areas. Some are simple lists of needs for the missions. A moderate number of acknowledgements of receipt of limosnas are included and these often offer comments on how mission work is progressing, agriculture etc. (D. Deeds) (1977)

These letters serve as annotated bibliography of preceeding document (including folio numbers for specific topics, as well as adding some further information. Concerns conversion, baptism, deaths of Indians at missions (f.409, F.415). Mentions assigning land to Conca mission (412); more than 4000 Pames at Rioverde, Tampico (414); all five missions established in 1744 (417). Frequent mention of key missionaries. (A.
