Series of documents concerning numerous Mescalero raids due to stationing of soldiers in presidio del Norte. Ugarte complains to Florez that he has not received message from Ugalde concerning mobilization of troops in el norte against Mescaleros. Florez upset because he believes animosity between Ugarte and Ugalde results in bad governing of province. Other documents deal with Revilla Gigedo giving free hand to Ugarte with respect to troops without cooperating with Ugalde; discussion of plans to have monthly military campaigns against Mescaleros and Gilenos; attempts to use peaceful Mescaleros against enemy ones; discussion of forming Indian auxiliary troop of Opatas, Taraumares, and Zumas. Concerns administrative correspondence dealing with appointment of commander for Nayarit, Canaveral gives notice of his illness to the viceroy, notice of Bando sent to Xalapa regulating merchants, notice of charges brought against Indians for workshiping idols, beds and uniforms are requested for troops, advancement of salaries requested to buy food for presidio's troops, notice that prices of salt and other staple foods have been raised due to low rainfall, Alberni gives notice that visitas to missions have been postponed due to his illness. Series of letters reporting on Alcavalas being requiered from military official who transported government supplies. Dispute is held on feasibility and legality of payment. Case against Gumeli, who is accused of taking 750 pesos while he was administrator of salaries for companias del Nuevo Reyno de Leon. Echegaray orders confiscation of his goods, and deduction of a third of his salary until the debt is paid. Notification of receipt and remittance of correspondence.

Concerns auto against Espadas by Echegaray. Letters by Espadas to Ugalde complaining about the trial against him. Ugalde orders Echegaray to return 650 pesos to Espadas. One third of Espadas salaries is to be deducted until his 900 peso debt is paid. (R. Gomez, July 1989)

King of Spain approves wages paid to ill military employees. Echegaray solicits letter of recommendation for promotion to regimiento de dragones. Troop appointments in Coahuila; Echegaray requests housing and supply preparations to be readied at presidios, intending to scout the western provinces. Promotion confirmation of Huerta to alferez segundo. Ugalde has Echegaray write monthly reports on the three companias. Receipts prove monies owed to Espadas.
