Summary
Series of documents concerning numerous Mescalero raids due to stationing of soldiers in presidio del Norte. Ugarte complains to Florez that he has not received message from Ugalde concerning mobilization of troops in el norte against Mescaleros. Florez upset because he believes animosity between Ugarte and Ugalde results in bad governing of province. Other documents deal with Revilla Gigedo giving free hand to Ugarte with respect to troops without cooperating with Ugalde; discussion of plans to have monthly military campaigns against Mescaleros and Gilenos; attempts to use peaceful Mescaleros against enemy ones; discussion of forming Indian auxiliary troop of Opatas, Taraumares, and Zumas. King of Spain approves wages paid to ill military employees. Echegaray solicits letter of recommendation for promotion to regimiento de dragones. Troop appointments in Coahuila; Echegaray requests housing and supply preparations to be readied at presidios, intending to scout the western provinces. Promotion confirmation of Huerta to alferez segundo. Ugalde has Echegaray write monthly reports on the three companias. Receipts prove monies owed to Espadas.
