B241-b242 is letter from comandante-general to viceroy certifying request. F. B243 is letter from viceroy granting exemption. Ff. B245-b246 drafts of letters from viceroy(?) To comandante-general and intendente of Durango concerning situation in Chihuahua. Ff. B250-b257 dated 1788 are correspondence to and from Florez's virreynato. F. B250 is draft of letter from pensions for retired or disabled personnel, widows of soldiers, officers and children of soldiers killed. Ff. B251-b252 is letter accompanied by table, relaying information from Coahuila, Texas, and Leon. Recipients of pensions are listed by name and rank. Ff. Letter of September 8, 1790, deliberation on having troops provided by different merchants in order to have better circulation of currency. Summary
Series of letters and informes on provisioning of presidial troops and companias volantes. government and military officials concerned that soldiers are not able to provide themselves and their families with proper amounts of food, clothing, and weapons with their salary. Merchants of Chihuahua are asked to develop plan for provisioning presidios that will benefit soldiers. Military officials upset because merchants are more concerned with their profits than with welfare of troops. In letter of October 30, 1786, Guizarnotegui proposes a detailed plan for provisioning presidios. Benefits and disadvantages of plan are discussed by other merchants, military officials and viceroy. Plan is modified several times, and each time there are meetings to discuss changes. Disagreements between merchants on amount of profits. In letter of February 13, 1787, objectives of themselves; distribute profits among merchants of region who promote agriculture, animal raising, and mining. In letter of July 9, 1790?, there is discussion of merchants anger of losing profits for charging high prices. Letter may 8, 1790, viceroy relates that Guizarnotegui's contract will end at end of year; all merchants should take steps for provisioning presidios. In letter August 4, 1790, merchants Argue that they have supported soldiers and crown in many ways, but that they need to make a certain profit or they will be forced to move to other areas. (J.
