Letters to, from Croix, concerning general military bureaucracy. Relocation of personnel to fill vacancies in several companies; arguments over whether military wages should be controlled by civil or military employees; granting permission for marriage to two officers; granting discharge from military to Valdez, his service record, description of injuries that prevent him from further service; F.102 is Croix' service record, apparently Ugalde is asking for his resignation. Proposal from Ugarte y Loyola for position as capitan of the primera compania volante de Nueva Viscaya supporting Baldovin, lists candidates for position and service records. Position open due to promotion of Tovar; tenientes of compania listed and description of their eligibility for promotion to be considered as candidates. Rodriguez for capitancy in Tupson and other two presidios because Azuela, fronteras capitan, has died from accident; Rodriguez' service record provided. Soler selected as interim capitan of primera compania volante de Nueva Viscaya with annual salary of 2000 pesos. According to Ugarte y Loyola, service record of Soler as Ayudante inspector favorable, but has left Californias due to scandolous love affair which provided poor example to mission Indians; Ugarte y Loyola also selects Soler for interim capitancy in Tupson, and orders him to reunite with his wife. Concerns resettlement of Seri Indians near the Pitic presidio. Discusses problems related to construction of a cequia -a special place from which it is possible to get water. Seris' petition to move to a settlement other than that of the Pitic. Corbalan emphasizes the Seris must establish next to the Pitic, and they must be given arable lands, and agriculture tools if necessary. Deals with matrimony regulations among Indians (R. Gomez, November 1989).

J.e. Serna, by order of Yxart, offers his services to Paredes. Formal complaints by some Milicia officers of despotism by Serna, apparently resulting in charges of insubordination. Maria Josefa, wife of Serna, tries to get legal separation from him, claiming cruelty, neglect. (A. Dean, July 1989)

In ff. 328-329 Alencaster requests pass to Toluca. Ff. 330-335 are viceroyal notes of approval for several military appointments, promotions. Ff. 336-341 concern Sandoval's request for supplementary wages; includes certification of convalescence by pages. Ff. 342-353 concern Alencaster's unwillingness to marry Doz y Sahum to legitimize their child, equal reluctance to pay child support for child's education; he was incarcerated for four years, but still apparently refuses either recourse.(A.
