Chrisanto goes to Tiburon, returns with mulato Cavesilla bien malo,5 families- 25 people. Accompanied by 5 Tiburones seeking pardon and permission to remain on Island. All rebel Seris have taken refuge on Tiburon, fearing Piato attack, except Marcos, 4 families, who returned to mainland because of lack of meat on Island. After 2 aguazerus, Anza leaves in pursuit of Piatos. Another detachment pursuing Piatos lose 5 horses who die of thirst while 8 men suffer heat prostration. Water carried in botas. 23 families of suaquis o sibubapas reduced in Belem- only 6 left and they're ready to surrender because of lack of water, death of Thomas, Paderon campaign against Piatos first priority including possible invasion of Cerro Prieto in October. Bergosa, 60 troops dispatched to pursue Suaqui rebels 6 Suaqui warriors killed, as well as 3 women, 2 kids, including 2 cavesillas los Mas obstinados, one-paderon- a gentile, the other- Thomas-former gobernador of Suaqui and autor de la sublevacion de su su nacion. 17 Suaqui families-62 people-reduced at Belen only 43 Piato families remain in rebellion. 14 more Seris and families surrender, bringing total to 191 persons. 4 more families asking pardon. Very few rebel Seris left. 3 Tiburones ask pardon and that their nation be allowed to remain on Island. Spaniards agree as long as several of their leaders come to make peace. No Seris left on Tiburon mas que tal qual que esta Casado y aliado con familias del Pais. Seris state Vipisi and Pima followers joining Cueras in Sierra de las Espuelas and offer to lead Spaniards to them. Guided by Chrisanto and 2 other Seris, Bergosa and 60 soldiers pursue Pimas, who flee into mountains. 4 rebels, 3 women, 3 children killed, 6 captured. Horses recovered. Letter concerning state of Elizondo expeditions. Argues presidial salaries should be 400 pesos a year, including expenses. Note sad state of troops' vestuario. says troops' discipline, spirits remain excellent in face of difficult conditions. Ask that infantry be mounted due to great distances between Aguajes. State Seri rebels few in number and greatly harassed by constant pressure against them. Argues that indios rendidos should never be resettled in pueblos of another nation because of hostility between tribes, but should be given own Pueblo. (T. Sheridan) (1980)
