Captain Fernando Punado manyon brings suit against actions of captains Alonso Bello, Bernardo Gomez and Fernando Alvarado with regard to their relationship to an Indian rebel group in San Bartolome led by Baltasar Caevimali (Chisos indian?) Capt. Fernando notes that Baltasar and his rebels are part of capt. Jose Pascual claims that the Jesuit ^doctrina^ of San Pedro de las Lagunas is an unjustified action by the Jesuits and that the Jesuits are to blame for the current unrest and second rebellion of the Tarahumara and other ^naturales.^ the Jesuits respond through padre Escandon, outlining the history of the royal cedula granting them their right; and also pointing out that San Pedro actually falls in the jurisdiction of Parras not San Joseph, and continues by outlining the corrupt practices of the miners who try to capture the Indians for labor and disregard the kings laws. An interesting document which contains testimony from witnesses who, while standing at the Door of their house, overheard conversations between two Indians concerning the uprising nearby of Indians. When, for example, the Indian Antonio was told that capitan Juan de los Reyes had been dispatched to provide help in the difficult situation, he replied, in a sarcastic manner (como burla) pobre Reyes. other remarks were made and the suspicion lingers that Antonio may also have provided material support to the rebels.
