Juan testifies on behalf of Nicolasa, Indian woman, and Juan Pedro her Husband, that Dona Francisca Espana beat Nicolasa with a club. Testimony of witnesses on both sides. Doctors report on Nicolasas condition. Finally Dona Francisca confesses to her crime - pays 100 pesos. (R. Davis) (1975)

Charges and counter-charges by presidio commander and ex-governor Guajardo Fajardo over jurisdiction and treatment of Indians in the outlying presidios. Investigation turns up, amongst other things, the sale and transport of Indian children to Mexico City. (T. Barnes) (1975)

A ^junta general^ has been organized by a new governor Enrique Davila y Pacheco to look into the reasons for and course of the Indian wars under old governor Guajardo Fajardo. A long list of men are brought before the council to speak of the killing and robbery committed by the rebellious Tarahumares, Salineros, Toboscos and Cabezas. Some testimony does suggest that the Indians were being treated cruely and this led to their rebellion. Finally Pacheco sends Philip Catalan and mrs. Catalan off to Mexico City to deliver the testimony to the viceroy. The Indians complain of bad treatment, plus the fact that the hacienda is encroaching on their land and stealing their water. The fact that Guajardo Fajardo hears the case is significant. The document is either incomplete or judgement is temporarily withheld. Especially interesting for showing manner in which the Indians appealed for aid. (T. Barnes) (1975)

Jose Pascual claims that the Jesuit ^doctrina^ of San Pedro de las Lagunas is an unjustified action by the Jesuits and that the Jesuits are to blame for the current unrest and second rebellion of the Tarahumara and other ^naturales.^ the Jesuits respond through padre Escandon, outlining the history of the royal cedula granting them their right; and also pointing out that San Pedro actually falls in the jurisdiction of Parras not San Joseph, and continues by outlining the corrupt practices of the miners who try to capture the Indians for labor and disregard the kings laws.
