Crimes (Theft)

The persons listed below are wanted dead or alvie for the robbery and killing of 3 men at la Cienega de los Olivos (including the priest of the Santa Cruz Partido). The gobernador decrees that all capitanes de presidios, Alcaldes, etc, shall be ready to apprehend the criminals. Rewards are offered. Fransisco Lugo breaks out of jail after capture. Antonio Saenz is implicated, but Joseph Perez of the real presidio del Paso del Rio del Norte says the Antonio Saenz fighting indios barvaros in his Jurisdiccion must be another man. (P. Lucio worked in Navarro's store, and stole a piece of linen (Bretana). He gave it to a slave (Joseph) who gave it to Juana (navarro's Cook). Apparently these two didn't know it was stolen. Lucio later retrieves the cloth. An interesting and enterprizing crime involving people of different social stations. Has implications of a conspiracy against el patron. (R. Perez) (1977)

Orena Sues for reclamation of money and goods stolen from him by Torres, who is the Cook in the household of Gonzalez. Orena does not want to press charges, due to the low station of the defendant; he only requires that his property be returned. (R. Perez) (1977)

Juan Rodriguez brings Fransisco Xavier Pacheco prisoner to Parral, saying he found Pacheco with horses belonging to Bernardo Rodriguez. Pacheco says Marcelo Hernandez told him to drive the horses into Santa Barbara. Marcelo Hernandez says Pacheco already had the horses and only said buenos dias Celedonio Antonio, Sirvente, says he met Pacheco a month before with stolen horses. The case is not settled. (P. Joseph Zubiate, mulato, accused Pedro de Quinones and Don Pedro's sons of stealing Joseph's mules. Luis Munis, Don Pedro's nephew who was present during this confrontation, attacked Zubiate with a knife, injuring him. A brief investigation followed, with no punishment resulting. (R. Perez) (1977)

Antonio de Escudero, Lorenzo Ventura, Miguel Peinado, Juan (all Apaches), and Theodoro a mulato) are all accused of robbing the home and store of Ignacia Barbara de lorriaga. They are convicted and sentenced to prison. Lorenzo died in prison of natural disease before the proceedings were completed. (R. Perez) (1977)

Causa criminal brought against Juan Pedro Santiago, servant, by his employer, Parral merchant Joseph Gomez, for stealing 14 Marcos de Plata. One merchant accused of receiving stolen silver says that all such business is conducted with sirvientes, y gente Inferior, como Es Yndios, mulatos, mestizos y coiotes. (0251b) (T. Sheridan) (1977)

Joseph Onetto is Charged with stealing from a store that he had been entrusted to tend while the Owner was away. Contains an inventory (with prices) of the items taken. Items included many varieties of cloth, as well as clothing, spices, vegetables, furniture. (R. Perez) (1977)
