Juan Paez Hurtado has suffered severe reverses in his private business and fortunes. He urgently petitions the viceroy to permit him to resign from his post of councilman, so that he may be able to save what is left of his possessions and keep his family and himself from falling into poverty. On the last page of the set, the viceroy hands down a decision, but the script is almost illegible. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

This long informe gives a complete account of the mission de Nuestra Senora del Pilar. It was sent by fr. Juan de Dios de Larrondo to fr. Antonio de Vebina, and speaks of the govierno politico and espiritual de los indios including the gastos and the limosna a los pobres, etc. This is an original document with the autograph of fr. This informe was written by fr. Diego Ximenez to the Senor fiscal, Bucareli asking for help for the missions. He enumerates the thirteen points which were issued as regulations for the soldiers in their duties of assistance in the missions. This is a copy of the original written at the colegio de San Fernando. (microfilm catalog)

Gobernador marques de Aguayo (1/12/1715) recommends that Joseph Urrutia who lived with Texas Indians for 7 years, led them in war and still retains their confidence after 20 years among Spaniards, be commissioned to explor Gran Quivira for 3-4 months in preparation for later conquest, colonization. Fiscal Espinosa (5/24/1715) advises virrey to deny request for exploration of Gran Quivira. Junta de guerra in Mexico City (7/3/1715) order Aguayo and Urrutia to supply more information about proposed expedition (typical bureaucrats). Aguayo (11/9/1719) replies that according to Indian from interior Urrutia interrogated, Gran Quivira about 1 months journey from Texas Indians, very rich, possessing big lake and populated by Tecla, padoca Indians. If Gran Quivira is to be conquered, Aguayo believes 40,000- 50,000 Texas Indians and confederates would assist Spaniards. Offers to send 10-12 armed men along with Urrutia. Lopez and Salcido are caught on the doorstep of a wealthy man's house. Lopez aims a pistol at his would-be captors and the two escape to San Bartolome where they are captured. The authorities want to get the goods on Lopez, so they take testimony from the citizenry (150 pages of it) as to his bad character. It makes fascinating reading. (R. Perez) (1977)

Notification of the royal order removing the command of the provincial military forces from control of the viceroy, uniting it with those of Coahuila and Texas, and placing it under the command of the superintendiente general subdelegado del real hacienda, a new office to which Borica has been appointed.
