Summary
The presidial soldiers of Santa Fee had elected Martinez and Otero as their representatives in the lawsuit between themselves and Cuerbo y Valdes. Having lost the suit, they (the soldiers) provided a large sum to finance a trip to Spain, to appeal the decision of the viceroy before the king. However, it appears that Martinez and Otero abused their trust, and the expectations of the soldiers have come to naught. They now ask the governor to strip Martinez and Otero of their positions. The governor sees their petition and he places Martinez under house arrest, awaiting further developments. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)
