Summary
Series of documents concerning the establishment of a mission among the Pame Indians of Xichu, including reports on progress and setbacks. Letters concerned with distribution of 500 square Varas of land to individual Pame Indians. Discussion of who and how elections should be conducted for mission supervisors and the direction of the temporary government of the mission. Correspondence concerning amount of money necessary to establish mission and how much is available. Fiscal suggested that a territoral government and military was preferred protection for mission and subordination of Pame Indians. Letters concerning uprising of Pame during meeting to elect governor and magistrate for new mission including number of troops brought in and minor details of confrontation. Four copies of typeset form used to oficially pardon religious Indians in 1818 including listing of physical description categories to be filled in. (S. Tisdale, March 1990).
