Series of letters between officials of direccion del Tabaco, the viceroy (Revilla Gigedo), and other government officials concerning status of tobacco taxes from Provincias Internas now that it has been separated from New Spain. They include copies of letters from 1777 which discuss creation of Provincias Internas under Croix, and its political and economic separation from New Spain. Summary
Viceroy Revilla Gigedo orders that all government officials, bishoprics, military, and tax officials of the Provincias Internas be informed that Nava has been appointed gobernador y comandante general, and that this capitania is totally independent from New Spain. There follows a Series of replies from these officials acknowledging Nava and stating they would implement his policies. (J. Tapia, December, 1987)

Series of letters concerning division of New Spain and creation of capitania general de Provincias Internas under the command of Croix. Discussion of all articles of royal decree for capitania, and its effect on governing of New Spain. Other letters concern viceroy's orders to officials in charge of collecting taxes and treasury department to inform Croix on a monthly Basis of the financial status of their respective offices. Viceroy also informs a number of bishoprics of Croix appointment and that he should be informed on all aspects of missions, as well of the right to appoint curatos. there is also discussion that Croix will not be in charge, for the time being, of the superintendencia general de lo gubernativo y judicial because this requires permanent residency as well as various offices equipped to handle various matters. Croix only requests use of funds from all taxable products in order to begin pacification and development of region. (J. Tapia, November 1987)

Summary
Concerns arrival of Cavallero de Croix as new comandante and capitan general of Sonora, Sinaloa, Californias, and Nueva Vizcaya. Appointment made in order to have better control of area, and for faster conversion of Indians. Discussion of duties among Croix and viceroy concerning region, as well as the relationship between Croix and the governors and military officials of area; discussion of salaries for Croix and other government officials; discussion of best ways for converting Indians, and for controlling warring ones. Summary
Letter from Arredondo to virrey accusing Arminan of disrespect and insubordination. Arredondo wants to help arminas petitions for supplies But, in question of the orders of the sub -inspeccion, Arminan has to behave. Virrey suggests caution in relations with Arminan. Arminan explains to virrey that he wants better relations with Arredondo, points out that conciliatory letter to Arredondo was not answered. Arminan gives loyalty to virrey and Arredondo. Summary
Arredondo sends two letters, numbers 180 and 207, to virrey complaining about supplies Arminan took without permission, suggest virrey place Arminan under orders of the comandancia general-a note from virrey to Daisemberger to place all complaints from Arredondo against Arminan in a quaderno and notify Arminan that he will be under the orders of the sub -inspeccion since December 30. Arminan writes to virrey saying that he agrees with disposition but requests further explanation. Virrey reiterates orders of being under Arredondo's supervision (D. Bautista, March 1990)
