This Series of documents contains a collection of letters to the governor of Nueva Viscaya detailing the numerous deaths caused by the rebellious Indians in various parts. Testimony is also included from a number of witnesses, mostly Indians. Part of the evidence Davila y Pacheco dispatches to the viceroy. (C. Needham) (1975)

This is a long narrative account by a number of witnesses, presenting Gaspar's story of how governor Guajardo Fajardo moved into the presidio of San Francisco Xavier de hacatouri and took it over, illegally from Don Gaspar. In the body of the account Guajardo is Charged with over extending his authority, with purposely paying Indians to make war to upset the tranquility of Sonora and with wanting to take the presidio so that he could get more silver from the Caxa in Durango. This appears to be a continuation of documents placed before the 1682 tribunal altho no mention of 1682 is given here. Is mention in here of missionaries and agricultural conditions. The date on the testimony taken is November 16, 1653. Not sure exactly when event took place. Persons- capt. In this Series the bishop requests ^permission^ of governor Diego Guajardo Fajardo to implement a royal cedula allowing the bishop to send his own man to help run the Jesuit Tarahumara mission at Huejotitlan. The bishop then sends out Juan del Candano. This upsets padre Gabriel very much. He points out that Alonso is adequately running the mission and that the bishop has no business interfering with mission activity. The bishop bases his argument on a cedula from the vr count de Alba - put it is possible that the Duke of albuerque is now vr and so this is why the strong retort by padre Villar. An Indian war breaks out against the Tarahumares and Tepehuanes in the west here. One document shows fighting in east going on with the Salineros also, and the Tobosos. The Concho Indians under Don Barnabe join the Spanish. A couple Tarahumara caciques arrive with some men and claim the other Tarahumares are rebels - not really the true tribe and they aid the Spanish. The fighting is raid, guerilla type action with a handfull of ^hombres^ and a large no. Of ^amigo^ Indians sent out every day on foreys. Action is continual all thru nov, December and January. Appears to taper off and end by February 1, 1653. In these documents the Rio Florida is called the Rio de Papigoche. Action takes place primarily in San Nicolas Valley; the ^valle de los mulatos^ and in ^valle de pachera^.
