Five letters written by fr. Francisco Garces to fr. Diego Ximenez. One is so badly written that a copy was made which accompanies the letter. These letters are really informes giving information of the mission and speak of various Indian tribes - cocopa, faliquamai, Yumas, etc. Some cover one folio others two. They bear the following dates- February 15, 1778; February 19*, 1778; December 25, 1776; September 24, 1776; January 12, 1775. These are original letters having the autograph of fr. Garces. This is a copy of the diary of fr. Juan Diaz when he accompanied cap. Juan Ansa in the expedition from San Gabriel in California to San Ignacio de Tubac in Sonora. The diary begins with the date of may 5, 1774 and ends on may 25 of the same year, concluding with the following words- se finalizo Este diario en dicho presidio de San Ignazio de Tubac en 26 Dias del Mes de Mayo de 1774. This is the original diary of fr. Juan Diaz who accompanied cap. Juan Ansa on the expedition to the Gila and Colorado rivers to open a new route to Monte rey and the missions of California. The diary begins by listing the personnel who were in the expedition, thirty four in all. It starts with the second of January, 1774 and ends with the 22nd of March of the same year. It concludes with the words- concluyo Este diario en esta mission de San gabirel in 8 Dias del Mes de Abril de 1774. this document bears the autograph of fr.
