Summary
Having lost in their legal suit against the Former governor, Cuerbo y Valdes, the presidial soldiers of Santa Fee find that they now owe a large debt. They have devised a plan by which they will pool their sources and form a fund to which each one of them will contribute a specified sum. The plan also provides that in the case of the death of any of the participants, the fund will continue to pay his share of the debt, and so save his family and survivors from poverty. They petition the governor, and then present the plan to a Member of the municipal council. They receive the consent and approval of the governor, for the plan. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

Summary
Greatly distressed over the marques de la Penuela's handling of financial matters, the presidials present a written complaint and petition to the cabildo of Santa Fee, seeking redress of their grievances. They accuse the marques of cheating them on the prices of merchandise, and of being extremely in arrears in his payments of salaries. Which, they continue, has placed many of them in extreme circumstances. They also complain about being made to toil excessively, and not having arms to defend themselves. In their complaint, they have received the written and undersigned support of fray Juan de Tagle and other priests. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

Summary
The performance of Cuerbo y Valdes during his term as governor of Nueva Mexico is examined by the viceroy, the duque de Linares. Testimony from various sources is considered; and the suit between Valdes and the presidial soldiers, and between Valdes and the marques de la Penuela is examined. The viceroy finds the soldiers and the marques culpable; and he orders the marques to refund Valdes, within one month, considerable amounts of money and merchandise. (Lloyd Kendall) (1980)

After enduring severe restrictions on postal dispatches under the duque de Alburquerque (viceroy), the marques de la Penuela seems pleased to announce that under the new viceroy, the duque de Linares, there is now to be in a few days, a caravan and postal delivery from Santa Fee to Ciudad de Mexico. Summary
Following a recent uprising of the Suma Indians, the Spaniards are attempting to placate and settle the discontented tribes. This is an order from the viceroy to Valverde y Cosio, commanding officer of el Passo, regarding the decision of the council for the Indian settlements. Valverde y Cosio is instructed regarding the accommodation of the Indians in locations pleasing to themselves, the distribution of agricultural tools and allotment of land, in attempt to engage the Indians in agricultural cultivation, so as to keep them occupied, constructively, and so reduce the chances for further uprisings. Summary
Juan de Tafoya is accused of treason and sedition. He has allegedly fomented an uprising of the domesticated Indians. Ordered by the governor to surrender himself, he takes refuge in a church. Still at large, Tafoya is further Charged with contempt, being accused of going about the territory, speaking mockingly and attempting to make a jest of the charges against him.
