Summary
This is a petition by alfarez Cristobal for permission to get testimony to his family heritage. He presents a 12 question document, then gets responses from Approx. 8 people who attest to his heritage. It seems his grandmother (on his Mother's Side) was a daughter? of a Conquistador and an original citizen of Mexico City. All testimony is positive. No ruling included here. In this Series the bishop requests ^permission^ of governor Diego Guajardo Fajardo to implement a royal cedula allowing the bishop to send his own man to help run the Jesuit Tarahumara mission at Huejotitlan. The bishop then sends out Juan del Candano. This upsets padre Gabriel very much. He points out that Alonso is adequately running the mission and that the bishop has no business interfering with mission activity. The bishop bases his argument on a cedula from the vr count de Alba - put it is possible that the Duke of albuerque is now vr and so this is why the strong retort by padre Villar. Summary
These documents are orders regarding fighting the Tobosos, aid between each other accounts of the fighting sent back to the governor. An interesting point is that gov. Diego Guajardo Fajardo of Parral mentions his need for funds, the holdings of the Caxa in Durango and brings up the 4,000 pesos given to his authority by the bishop. This obviously ties in with the tribunal concerning Diego's activities. (R. Davis) (1975)

Pedro de Sapion has killed one hundred cattle and salted their beef and requests and receives permission for a sale of salted beef in the public Plaza - which occurs over January 10 - February 12, 1653. In a few added documents it appears that in may, one Don Ansonio de Alvarado claims the beef killed one of his Mulatto slaves - but the charge is not carried far and is dropped. In the early part of this Series alfarez Diego Monse files for legal claim to a mine he discovered. Alonso del Contreros opposes Diego claiming his Father owned the territory. The case was decided in Diego's favor. Later, in the 1660's concern over legal ownership is again at issue and Gaspar Rodriguez presses his claim to the mine by claiming relationship to Diego Monse.
