History

According to capitan Bartolome Sarmiento, Geronimo and other Indians visited the hacienda of general Diego Alarcon Fajardo and killed some of his cattle. Final judgment is passed by Don Juan de Aguileta Alcalde mayor of Parral - it seems Geronimo is part of the encomienda of Francisco Cano and he must be responsible for paying for cows. (R. Pablo killed Marcos Perez at a mine. Is jailed and confesses to padre* his crime - also includes information that Sebastian aided him. Trial held. They are sentenced to 10 years at prison farm. On 20 of June they are sold at public auction to Diego Mularo for 130 pesos, who is buying for capitan Sebastian Gonzalez de Valdez. (R. Davis) (1975)

Don Juan Tello claims Pedro and Juan owe him 80 pesos the two indios present statements to reject the claim. A list of court costs, totaling 23 pesos is included. (R. Davis) (1975)

Francisco finds Antonio beaten up and wounded in the Head. Antonio accuses Geronimo, one of the Indian servants. Geronimo captured, jailed and eventually confesses. Sentence against Geronimo is 5 years on a prison farm and a fine of 50 pesos, and 40 pesos for court costs. List of court costs. (R. Davis) (1975)

Nicolas de Aguilar apparently shot Hernandez de Villa Gomez to death on 16 of February before a number of witnesses. The incident is reported by capitan Alonso then referred to capitan Bartolome and is decided in Parral by governor Enrique Davila y Pacheco residing there. The govt siezes Nicolass goods to pay court costs. (R. Davis) (1975)

These documents are an accounting of what officials are where in the organization of all of Nueva Viscaya. The survey covers eleven years in an uneven manner and some documents are simply repeating information. The form of the documents is a)a statement of identification and endorsement of the official by a alfarez or resident in the area B)followed by a signed paragraph by the official himself. Persons- general Enrique Davila y Pacheco, new governor of Nueva Viscaya. Endorsement- alfarez Diego de Galanneta; Vezino tesio cortex del rey; alfarez Valerio Cortez; alfarez Domingo Lorenzo. Diego Gallego of Parral (Vezino) (alfarez) formally contracts a loan of 127 pesos from Pedro Alonso Vezino of Parral promising to repay in 6 months or else Pedro can collect from Diego's goods. Witnessed by Francisco Romo, Don Geronimo Ponce de Leon and Francisco Sarmiento. (R. Davis) (1975)

Gen. Juan Fernandez buys Juan Malema from Dona Francisca for 300 pesos (?). A good October for history of one slave. Sebastiano de Valdez, Vezino and Minero of Parral, is obviously old and dieing. He establishes a ^capellania^ on his hacienda at cost of 4,000 pesos. (R. Davis) (1975)

A ^junta general^ has been organized by a new governor Enrique Davila y Pacheco to look into the reasons for and course of the Indian wars under old governor Guajardo Fajardo. A long list of men are brought before the council to speak of the killing and robbery committed by the rebellious Tarahumares, Salineros, Toboscos and Cabezas. Some testimony does suggest that the Indians were being treated cruely and this led to their rebellion. Finally Pacheco sends Philip Catalan and mrs. Catalan off to Mexico City to deliver the testimony to the viceroy.
