A mixed bag of a collection of copied documents relating to the setting up of new Cabildos in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and la Canada. Begins with investigation of Diego Manuel Baca and his unfitness for post as Alcalde ordinario in Santa Fe. Also contains numerous copies of autos issued by Former gobernadores Flores Mogollon and Chacon Medina conferring titles of Alcalde mayor and Alferez real on residents of provincia. Order by governor general sending capitan Francisco Valdes Sorribas with reinforcements to aid of troops in campaign against the Moquis. These rebel apostates had been invading the province of the Christian Zunis. (R. Saba) (1980)

Replying to letters and informes from the gov. General of new mesico and other Santa Fe officials, viceroy issues a set of instructions relative to the province. They cover soldiers' salaries, defensive wars against Indians, aid to newly created Villa de Alburquerque, and recognition of governor's good work with the Indians. (R. Saba) (1980)

Informe of viceroy outlining formation of junta (de Audiencia members and others?) To study conditions of settlers and especially presidiales in New Mexico in response to letters for aid from gobernador general. Details deplorable conditions and makes recommendations to king. Official reports and orders concerning a campaign against the Apaches who have threatened frontier outposts. Governor orders inspection of militias in jurisdictions of Santa Fe, Santa Clara, and Bernalillo. Lists of these musterings. Contains letter from fray Juan Alvarez, details some of devastation caused by Apaches on mission pueblos. Also requests protection of escorts. (R. Saba) (1980)

Bando by new governor Cuervo y Valdes ordering presidial troops to present selves with arms and horses for inspection. Other orders regarding soldiers' conduct , prohibiting their borrowing of horses and betting of their arms and horses. The governor mentions date of assuming office - March 10, 1705. Series of declarations, edicts, and other proceedings relative to reported conspiracy of Apaches (de Navajo) and Yutas with Christian pueblos especially those of Pueblo of San Juan. References made to uprisings in 1680, 1693, and 1696. (R. Saba) (1980)

Declarations by settlers recruited in El Paso by Vargas. In these testimonies they describe what they rec'd or didn't receive. It seems vagas distributed tools, clothing, and cattle destined for settlers among the Indians. He also sold cattle and mules to the soldiers thus depriving settlers of their fair share. (R. Depositions from settlers recruited by capitan Juan Paez Hurtado in Zacatecas. Paez Hurtado had been arrested for fraud and these testimonies are part of the case against him. Some 30 people testify before the gobernador and they are listed by racial group. The names of other settlers are included; as well as descriptions of what they rec'd or didn't receive for their efforts to come to Santa Fe. (R. Saba) (1980)
