Letters concerning military measurements to be taken in Texas due to american presence in the area, includes petitions for man power, ammunition, guns and all kinds of supplies; recommendations not to shoot americans found in Spanish territory in order to avoid open confrontation with the united states. Translations to Spanish of letters asking Spanish support of an american geographical expedition to Colorado and Mississippi rivers, at same time recommendations to Spanish officials to do anything to delay the expeditions, including sending spies into expedition to learn 'real' purpose of it. Summary
Concha submits his diary of campaign against Gilenos. His campaign has only limited encounters with Apaches, finding for the most part only traces both recent and old of Indian occupation. Response from virrey mentions difficulty of controlling Apaches in Sonora, Nueva Vizcaya and Nueva Mexico; but that as a result of campaigns such as this, area is now better known, especially with regard to water, pasturage, etc. (D. Pedro Vial (a Frenchman) is sent by Concha (governor of New Mexico) to explore the route between Santa Fe and Irinueces (Luisiana). Two copies of his orders and one of his travel diary are included. There he records day by day distances and directions traveled, geographic features, and Indian groups he met. He relates how he was caught by the Cancex and miraculously saved by some Indian friends. Summary
Vial is entrusted with the mission of discovering a more direct route between Santa Fe (New Mexico) and the fortress of Natchitoches (Luisiana). The commanders of the presidios along the route of Vial report in short letters about his arrival and the assistance they gave him in money and supplies. In one of them it is also recommended to found a presidio in the region of the Ozages Indians in order to facilitate the trade along the rivers of the area and to keep them free of English smugglers and arms traders. Summary
Alarcon is assigned the post of governor and the command of the colonization of Texas. The aims of this enterprise are the elimination of foreign trade (mainly French) and expansion of the Spanish one. General instructions for the expedition, and later colonization of the area and reduccion of Indians are given.
