Ugarte informs Flores of Ansa's death and suggests Medina as temporary comandante de Armas de Sonora, and Romeu to occupy position permanently. Medina informs Ugarte his disposition to give Ansa's widow, Regina, the inheritance. Ugarte approves decision and temporarily gives him Ansa's position. On letter of January 16 Flores approves appointment of Romeu as long as he maintains old salary. On January 30 Flores states that Romeu's illness of relajamiento de tripas makes him unfit for position in Sonora. (J. Tapia, July, 1987).

Resume of Sastre's communiques concerning Sonora, Sinaloa in 1772. Notes reduccion of Seris at Pitic, where they're given daily rations until they can grow their own food. Suaquis, also identified as Pimas Baxos, rebuilding their community. Some unrest among Pimas Altos. Discusses Gil's attempts to establish mission for Tiburones at Carrizal and subsequent murder. General of Tiburones kills two culprits and arrests Ysqui, the reo principal, who is handed over to Spaniards. Recommends that Tiburones by Voluntarily moved to another mission site. Proposal to split royal treasury, now at Alamos, between Ures, rasario. Inhabitant of areas along Yaquis, Mayo rivers excused from paying tribute due to destructive flooding. Discusses Cieneguilla placers. Notes increasing Apache hostilities. Vildosola scouts Sierra de Chiricagui, where Apaches gather Mescal, su Principal alimento. Summary
Note that policy of pequerna guerra now followed against rebels, resulting in surrender of 151 Seris so far. Tiburon inhabitants ask for pardon and be allowed to remain on island. No more Seris apparently left on island (distinction drawn between Seris/Tiburon inhabitants). Vipiri, Cueras plan to invade Ostimuri. Pursued by Bergosa and Seris under Crisanto. 8 rebels killed, 6 captured, rest escape. One member of Spanish party killed by arrow envenenad a de fresco. Crisanto named gobernador of Seris, Francisco Alcalde. Discuss various Indian depredations in Mobas region. Pineda, suffering stroke on left Side, places himself under care of curandera. In appended extracto (5/31/1770), note that after 12-14 Pima prisoners remanded to Guaymas, 40 families -100 persons - of Pimas leave Cerro Prieto and surrender at Belen.
